Director of Technical Accounting - Fortune 500 Company

Position Description
Our client is seeking a Director of Technical Accounting and SOX 404 Compliance at its corporate headquarters in Stamford, CT. The position will be responsible for coordinating the Company's SOX 404 efforts and maintaining ongoing compliance. Position will assist management with its assertion as to the effectiveness of the internal control environment. Additionally, the position will primarily be responsible for researching and evaluating new and existing accounting guidance relevant to Company. Responsibilities will include identification of technical accounting and financial reporting issues, researching and evaluating transactions, practices, policies for compliance with accounting and reporting guidance, developing and delivering written and oral presentations of the Company's technical accounting positions and providing training on technical accounting guidance. Position will participate in the drafting, review and comment process for SEC filings and requires significant experience with SEC regulations. This is a senior level individual contributor role.

Critical Responsibilities:
  • The critical day to day operational requirements and evaluation of the Company's accounting and reporting practices in accordance with GAAP, SEC and SOX 404 reporting requirements.
  • The critical initiatives that are supported by this position include maintaining the Company's compliance with SOX and GAAP requirements.

  • Background Required
  • Successful candidates will possess a degree in accounting with 5+ years of professional experience, with a background that demonstrates flexibility and a team orientation. CPA is required.
  • Working knowledge of the Sarbanes-Oxley Act of 2002 is required.
  • Strong knowledge and background in reviewing internal controls with experience maintaining and documenting accounting policies and procedures.
  • Demonstrated aptitude for research and technical accounting with a strong understanding of business process and ability to work both independently and manage projects.
  • Experience in public accounting (Big 4) preferred, or a combination of public and private.
  • Candidate must have demonstrated in-depth SEC reporting knowledge.
  • Experience in research and evaluation of accounting literature regarding accounting compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles.
  • Experience with international accounting standards and international operations.
