Director of Internal Audit - Leading publicly held Financial Services Firm

Financial Officer and Chairman of the Audit Committee

Scope and Responsibility
The Internal Audit Director will develop, direct and administer a comprehensive program of internal auditing for the Company and its subsidiaries. This person will work with the Audit Committee and senior management to perform risk assessment and compliance monitoring as part of the overall audit objectives and the annual work plan. This plan will include an independent and objective review, appraisal and verification of accounting and other business support systems and financial controls and procedures including IT and operations. This person will not be responsible for the Sarbanne Oxley 404 compliance work. The individual along with the Financial Security department head will conduct operational reviews as agreed upon in the overall audit scope.

Key responsibilities include:
  • Establish overall audit objectives for controls and processes, system reviews and operational reviews. Report to the Audit Committee and Committee Chairman, and function on a daily basis with the Chief Financial Officer.
  • Build a small department of 3 professionals to perform operational reviews of major business processes, driving improvements in process controls and quality.
  • Direct the current outsourced providers until adequate resources and expertise are within the department and utilize external resources for special technical areas.

  • Background Required
    Qualifications:
    The individual should have a demonstrated record of accomplishment in audit of a large financial services organization or in public accounting. Ideal experience would include approximately 10 - 15 years of both Big 4 public accounting and financial services corporate internal auditing. In addition to a degree in accounting, a CPA is required. Graduate studies in accounting, information systems, finance or business would be a plus. Possession of applicable Securities licenses, or a strong desire to acquire them, would be viewed favorably.

    Specific Strengths:
  • In-depth experience and knowledge of today's regulatory requirements, best practices, controls and procedures, and technology.
  • Strong verbal and written presentation skills. The ability to persuade and negotiate to gain full co-operation both internally and outside the organization

  • Interpersonal Traits:
    In addition to the technical knowledge required for the position, the successful candidate must be "hands-on" and self-motivated, yet able to work within the context of a defined team, a rapidly growing company and tight timelines. The successful candidate will also be results-oriented, energetic and committed to at least a near-term career in the audit function. This individual must also possess the level of maturity and professionalism that will allow him or her to work effectively with individuals at all levels within the company.

    Compensation
    The target base annual salary compensation will be approximately $150,000 to $200,000. The individual will also be eligible for participation in the company's discretionary incentive bonus program which will be based on mutually agreed upon corporate goals and objectives. The expected target bonus can range from 20% to 100% of base compensation. He or she will also be eligible for medical coverage and other corporate benefits. In addition, this person will be eligible for equity participation through the current incentive option program.
